Better In, Better Out: Inside Our Latest Raw Material Supplier Conference
If you’ve been in the coatings industry long enough, you know the golden rule: you can’t make a great powder coating out of mediocre raw materials.
We’ve all seen it happen. A slight inconsistency in resin, a minor deviation in pigment, or a bad batch of fillers can ruin the final product—causing issues with impact resistance, color consistency, and overall durability. For our customers, that means costly rework and downtime.
That’s why we recently gathered our core raw material suppliers for a critical sit-down. The message was simple: we are raising our standards, and we need our partners to rise with us.
The Heart of the Matter: Why Raw Material Control Matters
Powder coating quality isn’t just about the formula; it’s about the consistency of every single ingredient. When raw materials fluctuate, the final coating suffers.
During our conference, we laid all our cards on the table. We introduced our partners to our updated “Feihong Internal Control Standards”—standards that are intentionally stricter than the industry’s general benchmarks.
We didn’t just talk theory; we showed them the data. Looking at our presentation (see photo), we compared the industry’s standard tolerances with our own internal requirements across several key metrics:
-
Impact Resistance: While the general industry standard for textured and matte surfaces often requires a positive impact of 50 and a reverse impact of ≥30, our internal control standard demands a strict positive and reverse 50.
-
Hiding Power: We aren’t just meeting the standard 60μm full coverage for light and dark colors; we are tightening our internal limits to ensure a flawless finish at 50μm.
-
Color Difference: Even minor color shifts (Delta E) are unacceptable. We’ve set our internal thresholds at ΔE≤0.5 and below, ensuring batch-to-batch consistency that meets the strictest client demands.

More Than Just a Meeting
We aren’t asking suppliers to simply meet a checklist. We are asking them to fundamentally align with our quality philosophy.
By setting higher requirements, we are doing two things:
-
Protecting our production lines: Stricter incoming quality control means fewer production halts and less waste.
-
Protecting our customers: When our raw materials are ultra-stable, the powder coating we deliver is ultra-stable. That means better weather resistance, stronger adhesion, and perfect aesthetics for our clients’ end products.

What This Means for You
If you buy powder coatings, you know that stability is the ultimate currency. No one wants to repaint a project because the second batch didn’t match the first.
Our commitment to rigorous supplier management is how we guarantee that consistency. We are taking the extra step at the sourcing stage, so you don’t have to deal with the headaches at the application stage.
We want to thank all our suppliers who attended the conference and signed on to these new, higher standards.
